Bear Copy-Work
Objective: Develop a deeper understanding of sentence structure and practice penmanship.
Activity:
Print out a list of bear facts and have your child copy them into their journal. This activity can be done over the course of the unit writing one interesting fact a day and drawing a picture to go along with it.
Alternatively children can find their own facts in books that have been borrowed from the library.
Bear Vocabulary Word Wall
Objective: Develop and expand vocabulary.
Activity: Create a word wall featuring bear-related vocabulary. Some useful word examples include:

Fork-painting Bear
Objective: Utilize new items in art.
Materials:
Paper
Cardstock(for ears muzzle and eyes)
Plastic forks
Glue
Paint
Instructions:
1. Dip the fork in paint and dab it on the paper to make a large circular shape and let it dry.
Cut out 2 semi-circles for ears, a large circle for the muzzle, and 2 smaller circles for eyes.
Glue the cutouts onto the painted circle to create the head of a bear.
Draw on details like pupils, nose, and mouth.
Hibernating Bear Craft
Objective: Create 3 dimensional art using paper.
Materials:
Black construction paper
Cotton swabs
Glue
White paint
Brown packing paper
Brown construction paper
Googly eyes
Instructions:
Use cotton swabs to dot the white paint on the black paper to represent snow and allow to dry.
Cut out the shape of a bears head from brown construction paper and glue to the bottom centre of the paper.
Add googly eyes.
Crumple the brown packing paper to create a 3 dimensional den around your bear secure in place with glue.
Free Form Bear Art
Objective: Focus on developing individual creativity.
Activity: Provide your child with various craft supplies and challenge them to create their bear art. There are no rules here besides using bears as a prompt. Revisit this often providing different mediums and supplies.
