Sidewalk Chalk Games to Master Math Skills!

Are you ready to turn your driveway into an exciting math playground? With just some sidewalk chalk and a sprinkle of creativity, you can transform learning math skills into a fun and engaging activity for children aged 5-10. Get those little brains buzzing and bodies moving with these 10 thrilling sidewalk chalk math games!
1. Number Line
Start by drawing a number line. Either have your child draw it or fill in missing number.
Draw out a number line and have your child line up rocks below each number to represent the number.
Practice counting by having your child hop up the number line calling out the numbers as they go.
Practice counting backwards by having your child hop down the number line while calling out the numbers.
Practice skip counting by having your child hop by 1's, 2's 3's etc.
Practice addition and counting on by having your child hop out addition questions. Have them start at the larger number and hop up until they have reached their answer.
Practice Subtraction by having your child hop our subtraction questions. Have them start at the larger number and hop down until they have reached their answer.
2. Shapes
Draw various shapes around the driveway, call out a shape and have them race to jump on it.
Draw flattened 3D shapes around the driveway. Call out the 3D shape and have them run to it.
Have your child draw out their own shapes.
Draw out shapes on the driveway and have them measure the shapes and find the perimeter.
Following the previous steps and have your child find the area.

3. Pattern Building
Draw out simple patterns on the driveway and have your child complete the pattern.
Have your child create their own patterns.
Try a variety of patterns from shapes and colours, to numbers, and the alphabet.
4. Addition/Multiplication Boxes
Draw a 5x5 grid on the driveway. Fill in the top row with 1-5 from left to right and fill in the right column with 1-5 from top to bottom. Have them fill out the grid by answering the questions ie: 1+1=2.
Follow the steps above for multiplication.
Switch up the numbers on the sides or make the grid larger.
5. Fractions
Draw out circles or squares and write a fraction above it. Have your child fill in the circle to represent that fraction.
Take it a step further to have them simplify the fraction before filling it in. ie: 3/6=1/2

6. Measuring
Draw out lines of varying lengths on the drive way and have your child measure the lines and write the number to the closest whole number.
Following the previous steps have them measure smaller increments.
Draw shapes on the driveway and have them measure out the lines and write the number beside the line.
Draw circles on the driveway and have them find the diameter.
6. Less than/Greater Than
Draw out stepping stones along the driveway and have your child jump on the higher number.
Draw stepping stones and have your child jump on the smaller number.
Draw stepping stones and have your child jump in between with their feet in a v shape towards the higher number. If they are equal they step on both numbers.
6. Coordinates
Draw out a large grid and label the top row alphabetically, and the right column numerically. Call out a coordinate and have your child jump on the coordinate.
